China Installs More Solar Capacity Than Rest of World Combined in 2025
China has dramatically expanded its solar power infrastructure in 2025, installing more than twice as much new solar capacity as the rest of the world combined during the first half of the year. In the first six months alone, global solar installations reached approximately 380 gigawatts (GW), with China responsible for about 256 GW of that total—a figure more than double the combined additions of all other countries.
This surge has further strengthened China’s position as the world leader in solar energy deployment. The country recently surpassed 1,000 GW (1 terawatt) of total installed solar capacity, an unprecedented milestone that places it far ahead of other major solar markets such as the United States and India.
China’s rapid solar build-out reflects both ambitious government targets and significant investment in renewable energy infrastructure. Analysts say these record-breaking installations are reshaping the global renewable energy landscape and underline China’s central role in the global energy transition.
Experts also note that while many countries are increasing their renewable capacity, China’s sheer scale of installations in 2025 alone eclipses the efforts of other regions, highlighting the nation’s dominant position in the clean energy sector.
